Enter in Provence by its secret door.

The Enclave of the Popes is set as an island in the Provençal Drôme but it’s a part integral of Provence. Valréas is its capital. Very fast, the Popes settled in Avignon, understood the strategic interest and the relaxed rhythm of life which they could find in this region - the wine, the truffle, the light, the small perched villages, Knight Templars' Commanderies - and decide to buy this ground blessed by the gods.

Paradise of the walkers and the touring cyclists, each can practise its favourite sport there: climb the Giant of Provence, Ventoux; admire the Laces of Montmirail; stop with moderation in the "Castles" of the tourist road of wines of Coasts of the Rhone; watch working the potters on Dieulefit; promenade in ruins and market of Vaison la Romaine; sample the olive oil to Nyons; dare to cross the Rhone to face the rapids of the Gorges of Ardèche or more simply walk along the fields of lavender, discover the small roman chapels hidden in vineyards and settle finally in front of a stew or little stuffed vegetable under the plane trees of an inn in the country.

The tradition is still very present: the mass of the truffles of Richerenches, during which the currency of the collection is replaced by truffles, auctioned then to the advantage of the parish; the Feast of Small Holy Jean, in the summer solstice; the Parade of the lavender; the processions of Penitentiaries, prove that the current generations continue to make live the traditional heritage they received from their forefathers.

The culture, finally, is not forgotten. Besides Chorégies of Orange which attract thousands of spectators in the Ancient Roman theater, the four villages of the Enclave celebrate together, during summer, " Nights of the Enclave " which collect music, dance and theater and right by Valréas, Grignan, over whom glides the shadow of the Marquise de Sévigné, welcomes an original Festival of the Correspondence first week of July.

Come to discover this Provence little away from traditional tourist ways, but authentic and warm, who will know how to seduce you, we are certain about it...
